When I leave for a run in the winter I expect to be cold for the first mile or two. One thing that I do NOT want to have cold at any point (especially after mile 2!) are my hands and fingers. Keep them toasty! I have even been known to wear short sleeves in the autumn with gloves! These gloves cover it all. You can still use touch screen devices, and you get the choice of mitten versus gloves! DELIGHT!

Winter weather calls for insulation. We usually think of our head, torso, hands, feet…but rarely legs. Who would think they could get so cold?! In my experience, non-insulated tights do cover you – but they will leave your legs RED, COLD and TENDER when you get back home and start to warm up! My vote goes to a fleece lined tight that adds a little extra warmth to help ease the transition back to inside temperatures.

If they can’t see you…the will hit you! Simple as that. Now, in the middle of the day you can relax – but dusk…dawn…rain…NIGHT…strap that vest on and head out. Consider it another addition to your “safety bling collection”. I like this one because it's not regid, easy to put on and more like a piece of clothing than a safety flag.
Keeps your ears warm. Wicks away sweat. And a secret stash pocket? I need no further convincing! We lose a lot of heat through our heads – so I tend to strip away layers on my torso well before my head. Last thing off is my hat!

Post run shivers! We all know them. The cooler the temperatures, the more important to keep warm after a long run where you've worked up a sweat. I'm partial to changing out of sweaty clothes immediately and putting on COMFORT...and style! Boot cut to flatter – moisture wicking – and a thick waistband to ensure there are no “muffin tops” showing up post race!
Winter means more running in the dark! If you’re anything like me, I will do ANYTHING to stay off a treadmill and outside in the elements. This headlamp keeps my hands free and stays in place. Remember the “rules” to headlamps and flashers. White light in the front to see where you are going and be visible to oncoming traffic. Red blinking light in the back so others know which direction you are going and you remain visible! Headlamps are also best at making you visible in a snowstorm!
You’re line up at the start line. Bib pined on. Gun about to go off. You’re cold – but you know you will soon be HOT! You don’t want to toss your favorite running jacket on the side of the course and chance losing it. You don’t want to worry about re-pinning your bib number to another piece of clothing half way through the race (could be super dangerous too!). Alas, there is an answer. Arm warmers! You can have your cake and eat it too. Clad in your singlet you can slide on these arm warmers without feeling bulky or overdressed. Sometimes I leave my arm warmers on the whole run – sometimes I end up taking them off. These arm warmers are compact enough that they can easily be stashed in a “gel pocket” on the go!
